NC Report Card

The Wake County Public School System supports the efforts of NC governor Mike Easley and the NC Department of Public Instruction to provide parents with a variety of indicators of school quality. NCDPI and the Governor's office have produced a web site called the North Carolina School Report Card. The report card includes information about school demographics, student academic performance, school climate, and quality of teachers and principals.

     As you can see by clicking on the link below, Highcroft students and staff performed very well. There are several scores that you may find misleading that Mrs. Hughes, principal, wishes to bring to your attention.

     The most critical area that is misleading is the percentage of “highly qualified” teachers. The state measures this as teachers with a “clear North Carolina license.” Although HDE has outstanding teachers, the results reported may be considerably lower than the district or state percentages. For teachers who are from out of state, it may take an entire year to have a clear North Carolina license documented. Unfortunately, the report is generated prior to this action being finalized. Please be assured, as principal, Mrs. Hughes only hires teachers who will be fully licensed, once the bureaucracy catches up.

      The report on students promoted is also misleading. If a student withdrew during the summer, the student is reported as not promoted.
